How To Keep The Holiday Weight Off

Being a college student, I’ve been aware of the “Freshman 15”, but there’s also such thing as the dreaded “Festive 15”. The holidays are the best time of the year and the only thing better than spending time with the ones you love the most is indulging in all of that delicious food! These are five simple tips to help you enjoy the food you love while keeping the scale down!

  1. Get moving! Exercise is the best way to burn off all of those unwanted calories. Even if it’s just for 30 minutes, every little bit counts. That extra mile=that extra cookie.

  2. Don’t bank your calories. Saving your appetite the whole day just so you can indulge on that holiday meal is just setting yourself up for disaster. Instead, I like to eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning and a couple of healthy snacks throughout the day. This way, you’re not shoving those cheese and crackers in your mouth like there’s no tomorrow!

  3. “Just One Rule”- The holidays only come around once a year, so obviously no one wants to deprive themselves of the delicious food that comes along with it. With this simple rule, you don’t have to! It goes like this: Just take ONE of each appetizer that catches your eye, so you’re not missing out on anything. The same goes for the meal. Just one serving of each dish!

  4. Slow down! Eat your food slowly, you’ll feel fuller faster! After all, the holidays are all about enjoying each others company and making memories with family.

  5. Be cautious of desserts. Personally, dessert is my absolute favorite part of the meal, so there’s no way I’m saying no to sweets! Just be a little more careful. Take small bites/pieces of your favorites only. You’ll get the decadent taste in the first bite, a satisfying second bite and a lingering third bite.

Good luck this holiday season!
